Why would I buy a subscription based app, when wikipanion is free, amazinly accurate, and dynamic???
Even though it costs money...(sad), this is a good mobile alternative when you need general information that you can cite for school (and Wikipedia isnt allowed).
Dont buy into the hype, Wikipedia is fine if you need to know what happened in Episode 3 of season 2 of your favorite cartoon, but if you want or need real scholarship this is the app to have. The articles are both accurate and well-written, the price is a reflection of the fact that actual professionals write the pieces. If you can afford the 2$ a month this is well worth the price.
Doesnt even deserve a star! Students should not use this as a source of research because it is EXTREMELY biased on almost every topic. Youre better off with Wikipedia, at least you can read MORE THAN A DAMN PARAGRAPH on it without having to get scammed into buying.
Very informative, and invaluable for university assignments. And to the people complaining about the price: seriously? Are you listening to yourself? Its 2 dollars a month, thats nothing! And certainly much less than what it would cost to buy a physical equivalent.
This saves me shelf space, money, and eliminates research time. $2 a month is great for this encyclopedia. Keep this app for 80 years and you still saved money on buying the whole set. If you need quality information wrapped in a quality app, get the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
Paying for an app that crashes a lot is not good for the reputation of the developer. Please fix it! Could be a good app but because of this fault its not worth the money.
Plato,Socrates ,Aristotle,Newton shared their knowledge for free. Even Einstein was not in pursue of wealth during his fruitful career. "All the knowledge of the world is useless if it cant be shared for free",said Socrates. I wouldnt mind paying $30 for the entire encyclopedia but $3 per page hinder my quest for knowledge I appreciate the effort of those who created the app, digitalized the wealth of knowledge . They deserve to be rewarded for their effort . But we do need more free stuff for learning . I gave 4 stars anyway cause the app is fancy and easy to use.
Worst application ever!! You have to have an account which is stupid then it freezes. Plus you need to subscribe for $2 for an application that freezes all the time?! Please!!! Wikipedia eats this application 10 times!!!
I am sure britannica doesnt care about customer in this app just colorful ads. And no enough options. You cant do a list of things with it. Just gauges you money per month!
Are you kidding me? No more Britanicca.
Well another app that gets you to buy for a cheap price then tries to screw you over by asking you to pay more for the full version.
I appreciate real facts. Wikipedia is great, but its no Britannica.
I had a print version of the Encyclopaedia as a child and I loved reading the articles. This app allows me to do that wherever I go. The articles are informative and easy to read. A must have for any inquisitive mind. One last thing, have you noticed that the positive reviews are the only ones that are written in complete grammatical sentences and all the negative reviews are written in gibberish?
If you are a student or professional, and require the ability to copy/paste, or make notes/markup, you cant do that here. Its only for pleasure reading/earth licking type people who dont do any meaningful or useful work, and do nothing but irritate the world with incessant narcissistic blathering about bugger all that really matters. Is that you? Oh sorry.
As a writer and info junkie, I find EB to be flawed. Good design, functionality, & team of writers. Poor content. It is outdated in many areas, including health; it doesnt have even common entries like "peri-menopause" or "Transactional Analysis". Its DSM info is hopelessly stuck in the past. I also get the feeling that despite the many probable female writers on its team, it is an app funneled by men for men. Sorry, 2 stars. Revamp your content and youre all set. EBs place in many of our hearts havent changed since the days of the multi-volume tomes, but with such shoddy research, I for one will not be renewing my subscription. If I could get a refund, I would; but Id like to see it improve. Please note that you ARE competing with www. and Wikipedia. Thanks. Hope to see more changes in the very near future.
The content is top-notch, yet viewing certain articles causes the app to crash which unfortunately ruins the entire experience. As a minor point, there should be an option to disable the page-turn transition effect, which is a bit too garish and quickly becomes tiresome. Without the crashes this is easily 4-5 stars.
Sure would be nice if there was a one-time purchase option, especially since it looks like it just removes ads. Dont mind at all paying more up front for that option.
